Description
Chord Clearway USB HiFi digital cable
In a modern audio or HiFi system, digital and streaming are now essential; the classic “next step” in the process of upgrading a listening system. Chord Company Clearway USB builds on the success of the Chord C-USB cable and benefits from significant improvements in shielding helping you to enjoy your system to the fullest of its musical coherence.
The Clearway USB shield design uses high-density double foil and braid which offer additional protection for signal transfer and reduce noise transmission between connected components. Like the other cables in the Clearway range, the USB digital solution also offers a particularly transparent sound and carries digital signals with a high degree of accuracy. Among other benefits, for those who love technicalities:
Perfect termination shielding via zinc alloy sheathed connectors
Gold-plated connector pins
High Bandwidth Silver Plated Oxygen Free – OFC – Conductors
Double layer foil shield
High density braid
Anti-tear system without compression
Available lengths 0.75m, 1.5m, 3m and 5m
The importance of the USB audio cable
There's a common misconception that DACs and digital cables have an easy job: all they have to do is distinguish whether a signal is one or zero, right? It's not that easy. In real-time, high-bandwidth data applications the ones and zeros must be grouped into packets, and these packets are passed at incredibly high frequencies through the send/receive chipsets and through the cabling. Every little impedance discrepancy and every "grain" of noise from the power supply travels together with the data... In our case the music recreated downstream of the chain is reconstructed from the original message added to its errors. All this leads to audible problems and in general to a less coherent and complete reproduction than what was recorded or "streamed".
We therefore have noise problems. Impedance problems. Timing issues. Error problems. Problems.
Good cable is not like bad cable, as in everything. In HiFi, a good quality cable must be chosen, consistent with the rest of the system.
Using the Chord Clearway USB signal cable
When using Clearway USB cables, the signal direction goes from the USB-A side (the classic rectangular USB connector that we all know) to the USB-B side (the trapezoidal-shaped side).
