BOWERS & WILKINS 702 S3 SIGNATURE, HIGH-END LUXURY IN THE MID-RANGE
Exclusive finish with real wood veneer or Midnight Blue Metallic
New crossover with particularly high-quality components
High quality terminals
Excellent detail and dynamics even in large listening rooms
Carbon dome tweeter in a separate Nautilus cabinet for optimized stereo imaging
702 S3 Signature is the exclusive special edition of the 702 S3 from Bowers & Wilkins. It offers all the benefits of the standard version, but has been taken to an even higher level in some key areas to deliver even better sound quality.
The cabinet is finished in a stunning real wood high gloss (Datuk Gloss) or Midnight Blue Metallic. The design has been embellished with metal plaques and other details, including diamond-cut gold rings around the units. The grain is customized for each pair of speakers, so no two are exactly alike.
The unique Midnight Blue Metallic paintwork is reminiscent of Bowers & Wilkins' legendary Nautilus speaker. The beautiful, deep color was created by seven layers of metallic blue paint and clear lacquer and will ensure the speaker takes pride of place in your living room. This extremely luxurious speaker demands attention, and deserves it!
SMALL DETAILS WITH BIG IMPACT
The protective grille in front of the tweeter is taken directly from the signature version of the legendary 800 series. The new terminals on the back have been updated with exclusive brass versions that feed an even cleaner signal into the speaker. The magnet motor of the woofers and midranges has been upgraded and the crossover has also been equipped with better components than the standard version, including precious Mundorf capacitors.
The result is a speaker that meets the highest demands in terms of both aesthetics and sound. The 702 S3 Signature will enhance your decor and musical enjoyment for years to come.
The Bowers & Wilkins 702 S3 Signature is available in Datuk Gloss (real wood) or Midnight Blue Metallic.
NAUTILUS CARBON DOME - A TWEETER WITHOUT DISSONANCE
The Nautilus tweeter, patented by Bowers & Wilkins, has been a standard feature of almost all Bowers & Wilkins speakers in various versions for several years. The principle of the Nautilus is based on a tube connected to the back of the unit which acts like an inverted horn. This tube absorbs all the sound generated by the unit at the rear, while leaving the sound at the front unaffected. And that's what you hear through the speaker.
The unique 700 Series carbon dome tweeter sits between the 600 Series aluminum cone and the 800 Series premium diamond cone. The carbon dome consists of two parts. The front consists of an aluminum diaphragm just 30 micrometers thick, vapor deposited onto a thin layer of carbon using a PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) process. The rear part consists of a 300 micrometer thick carbon fiber ring, which is adapted to the profile of the external part of the aluminum dome with the laser and then fixed to it. The result is a dome with extraordinary rigidity and a cutoff frequency increased to 47 kHz, without unnecessary weight or other disadvantages!
A new feature of the four 700 Series S3 models is that the tweeter is housed in a separate enclosure on top of the cabinet to optimize dispersion and avoid the influence of cabinet vibrations, another principle taken from the 800 Series. As with the 800 Series, the tweeter is housed in a separate enclosure on top of the cabinet. As with the 800 Series, the 700 Series tweeter housing is machined from a solid block of aluminum. The elegant, newly designed housing weighs more than a kilo, making it extremely stable and resonance-free. This design also allows the housing itself to be used to cool the tweeter, as in the 800 Series.
In front panel mounted models, the drive is mechanically decoupled from the cabinet. In this case, it is simply a ring of synthetic gel around the magnet motor, which produces a clearer, more three-dimensional sound image.
FST - A UNIQUE MIDRANGE SPEAKER WITH UNIQUE QUALITIES
All 700 Series three-way models feature B&W's exclusive Continuum FST midrange driver, which has no edges. The FST unit is designed without the usual edge suspension of conventional units and offers extremely well-resolved and neutral reproduction of voices and instruments.
The Continuum cone of an FST midrange is specially woven to "break up" unwanted resonances on the surface of the unit. In combination with the edgeless FST suspension, the cone reproduces different frequencies at different points on the surface. The unit 'flexes' under the applied sound, rather than moving like a piston, and this helps ensure that all frequencies are evenly distributed across the working range. Which does not force the user to sit in a certain position in relation to the speaker in order to fully enjoy the music.
A real innovation of the S3 generation is the new biomimetic suspension, which replaces the traditional "textile spider". Another unique and exclusive technology, inherited from the 800 series. The purpose of the spider was to center the voice coil in the magneto fork and precisely damp the movement of the cone without hindering it, like the shock absorbers of a car. The new suspension guarantees much less air compression and coloration than in the past, with unprecedented naturalness and transparency for voices and instruments.
The finely tuned "anti-resonance" mass damper in the center of the cone also makes a valuable contribution to vibration damping and refraction control. The speaker frame is made of high-strength aluminum and the units are attached to the back of the frame in the cabinet using a special bracket.
AEROFOIL PROFILE - BASS REPRODUCTION WITH AEROSPACE TECHNOLOGY
The redesigned 700 Series bass units feature a simplified version of the ultra-light and ultra-rigid Aerofoil cone developed for the 800 Series. with aerospace technology. The sandwich construction of the 700 Series Aerofoil cones is also inspired by the aerospace industry. However, two layers of rigid paper are sandwiched between a layer of expanded polystyrene, rather than carbon fiber and special synthetic foam as in the 800 Series. Despite the simpler design, the Aerofoil cone was made with a sandwich construction.
Despite their simpler design, the 700 Series woofers are still extremely powerful. The light and rigid cones behave like an almost perfect "piston" that hardly breaks away from the entire operating range. Bowers & Wilkins developed the carbon dome driver for this series for exactly the same reason. You'll be amazed by the precision and dynamics of these advanced bass units.
LESS IS MORE
The crossover is critical to the sound quality of a speaker. As with the more expensive models, Bowers & Wilkins has optimized the interaction between the 700 Series units, reducing the crossover to just a few components. However, these are of excellent quality and were selected with the help of numerous sound tests. Fewer components result in a more direct signal path, which in turn improves the sound. In the Signature version, the crossover has also been revised and features even better components than the standard version. This clearly improved the already excellent sound quality.
Solid screw terminals on the back ensure trouble-free operation for the life of the speaker. Bi-wiring is also possible, to get the latest resources from the system.
B&W's exclusive Flowport, which has small indentations in the opening, is used as the bass reflex conduit. This surface resembles a golf ball and reduces air resistance, so that it can pass through more easily. The result is cleaner, deeper bass with less distortion.
