The Diva 6 is a 3-way speaker that sets new standards for fidelity of sound reproduction not only in the history of the Indiana Line brand, but also in the loudspeaker market. It features four Curv diaphragm drivers, three responsible for the low frequencies and one that handles the mid-range frequencies. These drivers are designed and optimized specifically for the Diva 6. Rounding out the configuration is the tweeter, also used in the Diva 3, Diva 5 and Diva 7 speakers, which ensures airy, open and crystal-clear highs, along with a sturdy cabinet with a bass reflex port located at the base.
Indiana Line Diva 6
The Diva 6 floorstanding loudspeaker reflects the Indiana Line engineers’ continuous pursuit of perfection. The goal remains to combine high-quality manufacturing with rational use of components and constant product improvement. This approach has led the Diva 6 to outperform speakers in a similar price range in many respects. In particular, it boasts exceptional voltage efficiency considering its size, effectively filling the surrounding space with sound even at low volume levels.
Rigid cabinet with slightly inclined front
The Diva 6 speaker cabinet consists of two MDF parts. One of them is a solid, lacquered, tilted-back front panel with a thickness of 30 mm. It improves the mechanical stability of the speaker and prevents unwanted resonances, significantly improving the clarity of the sound. The interior of the Diva 6 model hides four transverse braces that connect all the walls. Additional reinforcement includes a sealed chamber for the midrange driver. All these features prevent internal vibrations from being transferred to the walls of the enclosure. The speaker stands on sturdy aluminum legs equipped with rubber vibration isolators, which give the speaker a noble look and prevent the propagation of vibrations. The attractive design of the Diva 6 model is accentuated by a magnetically attached grille.
Improved electroacoustic transducers
In terms of construction, we have a 3-way design here, based on similar transducers to those used in the Diva 3 and Diva 5 speakers. However, each transducer has been created and optimized specifically for the Diva 6. They all feature ferrite magnetic circuits, and the set of four drivers, which handle the low and mid frequencies, boast Curv cones made of woven polypropylene. Compared to previous-generation Diva models (such as the Diva 650), the Diva 6 features changes to the speaker baskets, now with softer ribs. This design reduces air resistance behind the cone, minimizing unwanted resonances. The baskets work seamlessly with the Dual-Wave suspension, ensuring not only optimal functionality but also exceptional aesthetics.
Low frequencies
Three electro-acoustic transducers with concave dust caps are responsible for the low-frequency processing. They feature long, almost 15 millimeter, multilayer voice coils and thick aluminum rings to linearize the inductance. These are by far the most powerful low-frequency units ever used in Indiana Line floorstanding speakers. They allow for large linear diaphragm excursions. The total volume of air moved by them is comparable, if not greater, than that of the previous-generation Diva 660 model, which featured a single pair of larger 6.5-inch woofers. Furthermore, due to the size of each low-frequency transducer diaphragm used in the Diva 6 column loudspeaker, they move exceptionally quickly and precisely while maintaining low distortion levels, even at high sound levels.
Specially designed midrange speaker
The Diva 6 features a specially designed midrange transducer, which is located above the low-frequency section in a dedicated, suitably damped closed chamber. It is therefore separated from both the bass reflex system's resonance space and the woofer array. It features a powerful 90 mm ferrite magnet and a short voice coil of just 9 millimeters. This transducer also has a copper shorting ring positioned directly in the magnetic circuit. Thanks to the strong magnetic saturation of the core and the correct use of copper, low inductance and greatly improved SPL characteristics are achieved. Also noteworthy is the low level of distortion originating from iron in the system, which usually has a negative impact on sound quality.
High frequency transducer
The tweeter in the Diva 6 is a design also used in other speakers of the new generation of the Diva series. It provides airy, open and crystal-clear highs. This is achieved through tuning using crossover filters containing only air coils and foil capacitors, as well as a special radial vent chamber, which counteracts resonances behind the high-frequency dome. The front panel of the tweeter is made of die-cast aluminum and has a rubberized surface. This helps to widen the soundstage and better fill the room with high frequencies. In addition, proper tuning of the tweeter with the midrange speaker ensures excellent homogeneity and full sound in the tone range of 2 to 4 kHz.
Proprietary upper suspension
The mid- and low-frequency transducers use the Dual-Wave upper suspension. This unique and precisely engineered upper suspension prevents the suspension-membrane system from resonance during mid-range playback. It also extends the linear operating range of the speaker, resulting in much cleaner bass reproduction, while reducing intermodulation distortion and improving mid-range articulation. This has a particularly positive impact on the sound of percussion instruments, strings and acoustic instruments. Thanks to the Dual-Wave solution, frequency response irregularities caused by membrane edge resonance are also reduced. The visually pleasing external appearance of the Dual-Wave transducers is reminiscent of the design of professional stage speakers with so-called pleated suspensions.
Transducers with Curv membrane
In the 3-way Diva 6 column, both the low-frequency and mid-frequency drivers are equipped with membranes made of Curv material (polypropylene composite). The use of this type of solution in the bass transducer ensures a more neutral and precise reproduction of low tones. These membranes are produced exclusively for the Indiana Line company. The use of Curv membranes ensures that the low and mid-range tones generated by the electroacoustic transducers in the Diva 6 tower are exceptionally clean and natural. In addition, the unique properties of the Dual-Wave suspension emphasize the excellent sound of membranes made of this polypropylene composite.
Optimized crossover
The crossover used in the Diva 6 has been redesigned and thoroughly optimized, allowing the Diva 6 to work with virtually any transistor amplifier. The circuit topology, the number of components used and their parameters have been precisely selected based on multiple acoustic measurements and then hours of listening tests. As a result, the frequency response is precise and balanced. The refined filtering combined with the characteristics of the electro-acoustic transducers used in the Diva 6 also ensures a very uniform characteristic off the main axis of the cabinet. This results in a deep yet natural sound with spacious highs, regardless of the acoustic environment in which the speaker is located.
Bass reflex under the base
Diva 6 has a bass reflex arrangement with a port located in the base. This solution allowed us to strengthen the energy of the low frequencies without excessively increasing this range of the acoustic spectrum. Here we have a tuning with a slightly declining bass characteristic, but low range. The resonance frequency is set to a low 36 Hz. Thanks to properly selected woofers, captivating dynamics and fast bass were achieved, as well as excellent control, even when playing electronic recordings with clearly emphasized bass tones. The advantage of a bass reflex port directed towards the ground compared to a front bass reflex is also that the resonances and noises generated by the port are much less audible. Considering the undeniable merits of the bass and midrange of the Diva 6 model, this is of considerable importance.
