Performer s900 is the new SPL power amplifier and completes the range of amplifiers of the German manufacturer.
SPL, Sound Performance Lab is a company with a great tradition, rooted in both the professional and our HiFi market.
It was born from the passion for music of the two founders, Hermann Gier and Wolfgang Neumann, united by the goal of wanting to create electronics for music, film, multimedia, Hi-Fi and broadcasting. A new power amplifier is added to the vast HiFi catalog, Performer s900, which fits between Performer s800 and Performer s1200, alongside the mono power amplifier Performer m1000.
Stereo and derived from s1000, it has a power of 2x200W on 8Ω and 2x370 W on 4Ω. Of course it features SPL’s exclusive VOLTAiR technology, which is based on the use of proprietary opamps that work with a +/-60V power supply and therefore 120V total, with a consequent notable increase in dynamics, from about 124 dB obtainable with a normal opamp powered at +/- 15V to over 141 dB, which also brings an appreciable improvement in the signal/noise ratio.
SPL Performer s900 takes on many of the features of Performer s1200, with individual voltage and power amplification circuits and negative feedback control for each stage, in order to cancel the possible interaction between the speakers and the input stages.
The power supply is oversized, with a 866VA shielded toroidal transformer and a total filtering capacity of 48,000mF; another sophistication is the protection circuits, Performer s900 has a DC detector and a temperature detector. In case of overheating, the “TEMP” LED lights up yellow and the output stage is turned off until the device has cooled down.
Performer s900 has a pair of XLR and RCA inputs with the interesting feature of being able to adapt the input sensitivity in 0.5 dB steps from 0 dB to -5.5 dB with a simple trimmer, best adjusting the sensitivity of the power amp to the preamplifier.
The output connectors for the speakers can accommodate both banana connectors and a stripped cable with a maximum diameter of 4 mm, and there is a trigger input for remote control of the ignition.
